
Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) managed to inoculate 90,738 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to recipients who visited its PPV-IPT vaccination centre since June.
“Since the PPV-IPT UMS opened its doors to the public June 14, our staff have given a total of 90,738 doses of vaccine, which includes 52,175 recipients for the first dose and 38,563 recipients for the second doses,” UMS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Taufiq Yao Yun Hin said.
He said UMS is actively and will continue to help the Sabah Government achieve its desired herd immunity by vaccinating 80 per cent of population by end of this year.
He said more than 170 UMS staff involving clinical workers and students volunteers, Rela and Malaysian VacciNe SuppoRt Volunteers (MyVAC) are helping out to ensure a smooth and problem-free vaccination exercise.
“We had optimised all our facilities, human resources and expertise to help the government in the ongoing National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK),” he said.
Apart from increasing the number of doses administered daily from 1,000 to 4,000 at the vaccination centre, Taufiq reiterated that UMS is also accepting ‘walk-in’ by individuals who have not received their appointments via the MySejahtera app.
He said the walk-in sessions were done on Aug 3-6, 9-13, and Aug 30-Sept 3.
“We also despatched our manpower to outreach programme to vaccinate folks in rural areas.
Since July, Taufiq said UMS is working with the Health Department, Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), Health Ministry, and Kota Kinabalu City Hall in various outreach programmes.
According to him, among the areas covered include Taman Telipok Jaya, Universiti Apartment and Tanjung Aru.
