Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk has apologised to Harvey Elliott after the Liverpool player injured his ankle on Sunday.

Struijk caught Elliott from behind with a poorly timed challenge in the second half of Liverpool's 3-0 win at Elland Road.

Elliott had to be stretchered off the pitch, and Struijk was apologetic after the match.

"In today's game, something happened that I would never wish on anyone," Struijk wrote on his Instagram story.

"@HarveyElliott07, my thoughts are with you. I'm gutted and never meant for this to happen.

"I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the pitch soon."
