Jesse Lingard says he wanted to respect the West Ham fans after scoring for Manchester United at London Stadium.

The 28-year-old, who spent last season on loan at the Hammers, did not celebrate after scoring an 89th minute in Sunday's meeting in east London.

Lingard revived his career during his time with West Ham and still has an affection for the club.

"They supported me in the loan spell and gave me a great reception, so it was only right to pay them back," Lingard said of the West Ham fans.

"It was a great reception from the West Ham fans. I had a brilliant time here, but I had to do my bit."
