Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof says three at the back worked for victory at Tottenham.

The returning Raphael Varane joined Harry Maguire and Lindelof in the three-man defence and their efforts fully deserved a clean sheet - just United's second in their past 22 matches.

"It felt good," Lindelof told MUTV. "I think we defended well. They didn't have a lot of chances, but I think as well as a team today we defended very well.

“Everyone from the strikers down to David, you know and I think that's very important especially from the strikers if they help us out then it makes it easier for everyone."

Playing alongside Maguire and the fit-again Varane at the back, Lindelof felt his team-mates "covered each other's back."

"It was a good defensive game for us of course, but we helped each other a lot, we covered each other's backs and I think that's the main part about today's game," added the Swede.

"I always say that if we keep a clean sheet we're always going to score goals and that's exactly what we did today.

"It was very important for us too as a team to keep a clean sheet and I think that's something we can build on."
