Warren Barton is as excited as any Newcastle United fan over the club's imminent sale.
Barton spent six-and-a-half years with the Magpies between 1995 and 2002 and made 218 appearances before leaving for Derby County.
Speaking to Sky Sports News on Thursday morning, he said: “Look at the fans, what are they saying? What do they want going forward?
“There are other things other than just the quality on the field and I think there are some good players in the Newcastle team but, obviously, you would like to add.
“I do think there will be a big turnaround at the end of the season. A recount and a refocus of what you need, look around at the scouting system, what's the personnel like, who the manager is going to be."
He admitted that Mike Ashley's ownership has been draining for him to watch and reminisced about some of his memories from the time he spent in the North East.
“It's wonderful to dream because I haven't dreamt for 14 years, it's just been churning over the same things.
“I have that experience of remembering the fans going in all in their black and white shirts looking forward to the game with optimism and pride.
“I remember when Alan Shearer signed for a world record, there were 10 or 20 thousand fans just watching him wear the shirt so let's get back to those days.
“The fans deserve it, the city deserves it and the football club deserves it as well because it's a wonderful place."
