Caoimhin Kelleher remains convinced of a chance at Liverpool.

The goalkeeper is to make his first start for the Republic of Ireland in Tuesday night's friendly against Qatar.

Asked if he still believed that pathway was there for him, Kelleher replied: “I think it's certainly there. There's no point being somewhere and not thinking you could be number one.

“You have to have that mentality and I want to push on and be number one. And hopefully if I get a chance, I'll take it.

“I'm just trying to take it day by day at the minute, when I do get games for Liverpool, to put in good performances and show that I am capable of playing at that level, and just trying to keep consistent and keep pushing on and hopefully one day I'll get to that level."

In the meantime, the experience of training day to day alongside Alisson and attempting to keep the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane at bay is proving invaluable.

Kelleher said: “It's great to be in and around that and learn from. It means a lot to me and I'm so happy to be going in every day and learning from players with such a high quality.

“Some of the best players in the world are training, so it can only improve you as a player by training at that level. It has helped me a lot and I just look forward to training every day and trying to improve."
