The interstate travel ban has been lifted today (11 October) for fully vaccinated individuals and no new standard operating procedures (SOP) have been announced. This means that every Malaysian has to take the responsibility to adhere to the existing SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin shared an image of a graph demonstrating the decrease in Covid-19 cases over the past month and reminded Malaysians to remember this image while travelling interstate.
“As we allow interstate travel to resume today, please remember this image,” he said.
“We are climbing down from the peak of disaster and despair. Let’s make sure there are no more peaks. Mask up, observe SOPs, practice TRIIS (test, report, isolate, inform and search). #ReopeningSafely”
According to Astro Awani, Khairy said the decision to lift the interstate travel ban for fully vaccinated individuals was made in recognition of the efforts by the frontliners.
“If you really appreciate what the frontliners have been doing for the last one and a half years, you will be responsible, self-aware, (and) you will ensure that you will take care of your health,” he said, adding that the lifting of the interstate travel ban was apt as it took place on World Mental Health Day and Malaysia’s Doctors Day.
Meanwhile, BERNAMA reported that at 12 midnight on 11 October, no unusual traffic was reported on the main roads leading out of Kuala Lumpur.
“People are also reminded not to be too enthusiastic about interstate travel as the country is still facing the Covid-19 pandemic,” Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Mat Kasim Karim said.
A survey at the Gombak and Jalan Duta toll plazas reported that there was an increase in the number of vehicles, but the traffic flow remained normal. Several vehicles were seen stopping about 300 metres from the Gombak toll plaza before exiting at 12 midnight.
