Chelsea legend John Terry has revealed how close he came to joining Manchester City in 2009.

The former England captain was tempted to move to City following their takeover by a mega-rich Abu Dhabi consortium.

However, speaking to Keys & Gray The Podcast, Terry revealed that he had no intentions of leaving Chelsea

"Man City made an offer for me, and I made very, very clear to Chelsea I didn't want to go anywhere," Terry said.

"If they see it differently and want to take the money, then I'd have to accept their decision, but I made it very clear to Chelsea, and ended up signing a new contract to show my commitment to the club.

"Man City were very keen at the time.

"I think they were looking for a leader, and by the way they didn't do too badly when they didn't get me and went and got Vincent Company who turned out to be an incredible signing.

"It turned out well for both clubs. I never wanted to go, and they got the man they probably wanted as well."
