IPOH – Police have detained two local men suspected of involvement in the killing of a retired army member recently.
Perak top cop Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid in a statement today said one of the suspects, a 34-year-old serviceman, was arrested about 8pm in Taiping yesterday, while the other, a 31-year-old self-employed man, was nabbed in Perlis on Tuesday.
He said the arrests followed a report lodged by a nephew of the victim at 4am on Monday, at the Kuala Sepetang police station.
“Investigations found that the incident happened at 3pm on Sunday, in front of the victim’s house in Taman Ngah Ibrahim, Taiping.
“Both suspects, who arrived in a Nissan Almeira, were armed with a sharp object. The 42-year-old victim knew both suspects.”
He said jealousy is believed to be the motive, as the 31-year-old suspect had accused the victim of having an affair with his wife.
Following interrogation, the two suspects brought police to an area 60m from the road in Bukit Sumpitan near Selama, and showed the location where the victim was killed, said Mior Faridalathrash.
“Forensic investigations revealed five stab wounds on the victim’s back, and another four on the front. The victim is believed to have been dead for three days when his body was found.
“The body was sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for a post-mortem.”
The case is being investigated under Sections 363 and 302 of the Penal Code for abduction in Taiping and murder in Selama, respectively.
“The suspects have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code until October 20 to assist in investigations,” said Mior Faridalathrash. – Bernama, October 14, 2021
