The Saudi-back consortium waiting to but Newcastle United have January market plans in place.

ChronicleLive says the prospective owners would be ready to go if the January arbitration goes in their favour, having drawn up plans for potential recruitment in each of the last few transfer windows.

A dramatic week returned the takeover to the headlines as arbitration timelines and accusations were swapped at the first preliminary CAT hearing.

It's understood there's a belief that a January resolution is now possible (one way or another), with the Premier League required to show their rules have been correctly applied while Newcastle need to prove separation between the Saudi state and the PIF, something independent observers have always maintained could be difficult.

Both sides believe they have a compelling case so it will be up to the panel consisting of Michael Beloff QC, Lord David Neuberger and Lord John Dyson to make a call after a week-long hearing.

Whether a takeover would still go ahead in that case was one of the points argued by the dualling QCs this week. It's understood there have been credible bids lodged that rival the PIF-backed consortium but at less than the £280million agreed back in 2020.
