KOTA KINABALU – Sabah rolled out its booster dose programme today targeting to inoculate 60,000 frontliners, 193,953 senior citizens, and those in the high-risk category who are eligible to receive their jabs.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said the inoculation will be done in two stages, involving Pfizer recipients.
Speaking at the launch of the booster dose programme here, Hajiji said the first stage will involve non-healthcare and healthcare frontliners receiving their jabs from today until November 20, while senior citizens and high-risk groups will be inoculated from November 2 onwards.
“Although receiving the booster dose is a choice for individuals, it is highly recommended that they get the optimum protection against Covid-19,” Hajiji said, adding that the booster dose is needed for those with waning immunity after six months of completing their vaccination.
He said under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, the booster dose is free and dispensed voluntarily six months after completion of the first and second doses.
It will be administered by selected public and private facilities under the supervision of ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd. Eligible individuals will be notified via the MySejahtera app, while vaccine centres will be making announcements via SMS or phone calls for those without the app.
On Monday, 70.8% of adults aged 18 and above had been vaccinated, while 73.67% of 434,000 teenagers above the age of 12 had received at least one dose.
