Bayern Munich forward Joshua Zirkzee admits turning down Everton as a teen.

Zirkzee spent the second half of last season on loan at Italian side Parma, but was limited to only four appearances during his time with the club.

The Netherlands-born attacker was on the move again this summer, this time signing for Anderlecht on a season-long loan.

Since joining the Belgian club, Zirkzee has scored four times in seven league appearances and looks set for a promising spell away from Bayern.

Reflecting on his decision to dismiss interest from Everton four years ago, Zirkzee said: "I finished the season at Feyenoord and looked at the possibilities.

Ronald Koeman was Everton's coach at the time, so as a Dutchman, I thought I would get more attention there.

“However, I cancelled Everton myself," he told Het Nieuwsblad.

"Bayern also came to scout me, but just then, I played two lesser matches.

“I then said myself: Invite me for some test training, and I will convince you. That's how it went."
