
Kota Kinabalu: A prosecution witness told the Magistrate’s Court, Monday, that among the documents seized from a premises in Kg Air here in 2018 were forms to seek support from former Deputy Home Minister Datuk Azis Jamman to approve entry permits.
The prosecution’s seventh witness Inspector Nur Dalila Hamzah, who was the investigating officer of the case, told the court that a police report dated Nov 22, 2018 was lodged after the arrest of three people, including the accused, Rohani Mohd Ismail, who were arrested by senior police officer Inspector Rommy Abdul Rani.
Nur Dalilah told Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun during examination-in-chief that her investigations found the forms to seek support to approve entry permit registrations and MyPR card.
When referred by the prosecuting officer Inspector Albert Basiri, to several documents, Nur Dalilah said it was a set of seizure search lists and four bundles of documents, among them, were copies of identity cards and temporary identification receipts.
There were also application forms to apply for support to approve entry permit registrations, said Nur Dalilah, adding that the applications were addressed Azis Jamman, who was then Deputy Home Minister.
Nur Dalilah testified that she also took a statement from Rohani and told the court that Rohani was the owner of the Areney Enterprise.
Nur Dalilah identified the accused, who was at the accused dock as Rohani.
The witness further testified that she concluded that the case involved forgery of documents based on the police report lodged by Inspector Rommy on Nov 22, 2018 in which arrests was made on three individuals, including Rohani, and the seizure items such as application forms to seek support to approve entry permit registrations and MyPR card.
Nur Dalilah testified that she was ordered by the head of the commercial crime division to open an investigation paper under Section 420 of the Penal Code as a result of the arrests and seizures made as the suspect was suspected of being involved in the forgery of the documents involved.
Rohani, 35, stand trial of cheating 127 people of RM5,334 over purported letters addressed to the former Deputy Home Minister to support their applications to obtain “entry permit’ and to convert IMM13 documents to MyPR.
Rohani, who was defended by counsel Farazwin Haxdy, allegedly committed the offence at 2.30pm on Nov 22, 2018 at the Areney Enterprise, Jalan Haji Yaakob in Kg Air.
The charge stated that Rohani allegedly typed 127 letters addressed to Azis Jamman to seek support to approve entry permit registrations and MyPR cards.
The charge also stated that Rohani allegedly deceived the people by making them to believe that such application letter could convert IMM13 document into MyPR which induced the alleged victims to pay her RM42 for each application.
According to the charge, Rohani allegedly obtained a total of RM5,334 from the 127 people that day.
The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, upon conviction.
