Southampton midfielder Will Smallbone apologised for missing a penalty against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's Saints put up a spirited display against the Blues, fighting for a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

However, Chelsea had the most composure in the resulting penalty shootout, progressing to the fifth round of the competition.

Smallbone, who was out for ten months with an ACL injury, missed a key penalty in the shootout.

He posted on his official Twitter account: "After 283 days it felt good to put the shirt back on again! Sorry about the penalty will come back stronger!! Thank you for your support!"
