Come clean on Covid-19 ICU admission numbers, S’wak authorities told

MIRI – State authorities should be transparent in revealing the high number of critical Covid-19 patients in Sarawak hospitals, said Sabah and Sarawak PKR president Dr Teo Yu Keng.

“The intensive care unit (ICU) admission of Covid-19 patients is a direct reflection of the severity of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, along with the high number of daily confirmed fatalities.

“The latest Covid-19 datas released by the Health Ministry (MoH) in Putrajaya today show that Sarawak has the highest Covid-19 ICU admission rate.

“Today, there has been another 18 more Covid-19 deaths in the state.

“The coronavirus situation in Sarawak is not getting better but state ministers keep saying it is safe enough to hold the state election,” Dr Teo told The Vibes.

Based on MoH’s latest figures which were uploaded on its website this morning, Sarawak recorded 79.8% occupancy at its hospitals’ ICU.

Next highest was Perak with a 72.1% ICU occupancy rate, followed by the Klang Valley with 70.2%, MoH said.

As for hospital bed occupancy, Sarawak also showed a high usage of 72.7%, indicating that hospitals in the state are seeing a high number of patients.

Patients needing ventilators to breathe are also on the high side, with 53.1% of ventilators in Sarawak hospitals currently being used.

The latest figures also show that the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak is still at a serious level, despite claims by several state ministers that the situation is safe enough for the 12th state elections.

Sarawak saw another 750 new infections statewide today with fatalities involving those aged between 30 and 80 in Sibu, Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Betong, and several other places. – The Vibes, October 22, 2021
