Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has apologised for his red card in defeat to Crystal Palace.

Laporte had already given away possession, allowing Wilfried Zaha to score an early opener for Palace in the Premier League clash, and he was once again beaten by Zaha as the forward got in front of him and looked to race through on goal.

City defender Laporte had no option but to pull Zaha down, with referee Andre Marriner brandishing a red card as he was deemed the last man. Despite City's protests, VAR agreed with the on-field decision, and Laporte was sent off just before half time.

He posted to social media: "Really disappointed with the outcome today. Hard to get my first red wearing this shirt, credit to all the guys for fighting on the pitch until the end.

"Sorry for the loss, still we have a lot to take. Lose together, win together. Thanks for the unconditional support."
