Kota Kinabalu: The Borneo Marathon may resume next year following a two-year lapse due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was revealed by the organiser Kinabalu Running Club’s (KRC) President Datuk Dr Heng Aik Cheng who called on Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred at his office on Tuesday. Ellron was informed of their intention to organise the event in 2022 despite knowing there may still be uncertainties on the pandemic situation.

However the organiser said the final decision will only be known once a meeting is held in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Minister voiced his support to resume the event and believed it has the potential to attract a large number of participants outside the country and that will help to stimulate the State tourism sector, but in-depth studies are necessary.

Also at the meeting were KRC committee member Caroline Wong and its secretary Grace Ajon, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary I Mansur Asun, Permanent Secretary II Putera Jali and Sabah Sports Council officials.
