PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has reported 5,859 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, down from 6,355 cases on Friday.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said the total number of infections now stands at 2,581,747 cases.

He said 4,970 patients had recovered while 529 patients remained in intensive care, 420 are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 109 suspected of being infected; 261 patients required respiratory assistance, with 169 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 92 suspected of being positive.

There were 5,840 local infections Saturday, involving 5,629 Malaysians and 211 foreigners, and 19 imported cases.

Of these, only 1.7pc of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.
