New Tottenham boss Antonio Conte states that he was not ready to take on the job in the summer, when the club first approached him.

Conte had recently left Inter Milan after securing the Serie A title, and Spurs attempted to agree a deal to get him to replace Jose Mourinho.

However, Conte rejected their offer, and Spurs eventually signed Nuno Espirito Santo.

Now that Santo has been sacked, Conte is the man in charge at the North London club.

Conte told the club's website: "Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn't yet the right time to return to coaching.

"But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark.

"Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction."
