SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — The state government will obtain information on the residences of Orang Asli communities for the construction, improvement and upgrading process, said state executive councillor for Orang Asli general affairs Hee Loy Sian.

He said the decision to collect data comes after the tabling of the 2022 Selangor Budget by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, which allocated RM1.5 million for the comfort of the Orang Asli.

“We will get the information from the Orang Asli Development Department and assemblymen on the conditions of residents’ homes, whether they need to be repaired or built anew.

“The condition of each home is not the same, and the expenditure cost is also not the same, so we will gather information beforehand,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini yesterday.

Hee added it is the first time the state budget has given an allocation for the construction of homes, for the Orang Asli community.

“This is happy news, and they have welcomed the state government’s efforts, as before this allocations were only given for repairs,” he said.

On Friday, Amirudin said the allocated funds will focus on construction, repair, and improvement programmes for their residences in the Orang Asli villages.

“Existing infrastructural amenities will also be improved, which simultaneously increases the socio-economy and retains the Orang Asli community’s culture, which for long has been practiced,” he said during the tabling of the budget in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
