KUNAK: Plastic road barriers have been put in place in several main locations here for a week, starting Wednesday (Nov 3), said District Council Executive Office Mohd Nazri Pintal.

The initiative, he said, aims to see its effectiveness in reducing traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

The barriers were installed near the Petron fuel station after the roundabout here. “Road users, especially drivers are advised to follow the traffic flow throughout the period,” he said.

Previously, the area near the Petron fuel station is always congested, especially by drivers from out of the district who are entering the main road near the roundabout.

“The decision to install the road barriers was made during a District Council meeting on Oct 25.

“The feedback from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the traffic police were also taken into account.”

The road barriers were also installed in the access road near Servay Jaya Supermarket and near Maybank (Sapang Building).

“The effectiveness would be monitored for a week, and if it produces positive results, the traffic flow would be maintained.

“The District Council also hopes to receive feedbacks from the public on the move.

“Before we finalise anything, the views from various quarters, including road users would be look into,” he said.
