Edinson Cavani was unimpressed when Manchester United asked about surrendering his No7 shirt to Jadon Sancho last summer.

United had reportedly promised Sancho the number seven shirt during negotiations with the then Borussia Dortmund forward in 2020.

United rekindled their interest in Sancho in the summer and agreed to sign the former Manchester City graduate for £73million.

The number seven shirt was again discussed, as Sancho was wearing it at Dortmund at the time, and the forward was set to inherit it at Old Trafford.

But by this time United had already tied down Cavani to another year, who was the owner of the number seven shirt, prompting an awkward conversation between him and United chiefs.

The Athletic reports Cavani was said to have been 'put out' at being asked to give up the number seven shirt for the new recruit.

As a result, Sancho was handed the number 25 shirt at Old Trafford and Cavani retained the number seven... until Cristiano Ronaldo turned up, of course.
