Former Newcastle United captain Steven Taylor is happy seeing the club change hands.

Having played under the ownership of Mike Ashley - suffering relegation in 2009 and 2015 - Taylor is looking forward to the future of United with ambitious owners.

"It's about time," he told Chronicle Live.

"We've been waiting for ages, and Newcastle fans needed it [the takeover].

"The atmosphere from the last home game - you could just see it, and everyone has now got that little bit of belief and hope.

"It isn't going to happen overnight but the new manager coming in is hopefully going to excite the crowd with the way his football is front foot- that is something different from the previous two managers.

"Hopefully there are some good times ahead."
