Italian journalist Paolo Condo explained why he voted for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho for this year's Ballon d'Or.
Condo went with Jorginho ahead of winner Lionel Messi.
He reasoned: “Chelsea were not the favourite to win the Champions League at the beginning of the season and the same goes for Italy at the Euros.
“Jorginho played a key role for both teams. That's why I voted for him, not because he is Italian. I had never picked a compatriot before."
Condo was the only Italian journalist who took part in the vote. He works for La Repubblica newspaper and Sky Sport Italia.
