Liverpool's owners, the Fenway Sports Group, are aiming to purchase a National Hockey League franchise.

FSG have owened the Boston Red Sox since 2002, while they are in full control of Liverpool as well.

The group also has a 50 percent stake in the Nascar team Roush Fenway Racing.

According to the Mirror, the group are expanding their sports empire with a deal worth £638 million to secure the Pittsburgh Penguins.

There is even a suggestion the group may purchase another football club outside of England in the near future.
