Sacked Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to dump his backroom team on request.

Soskjaer was sacked by United today, with assistant coach Michael Carrick named as caretaker.

ESPN says several United stars complained about Solskjaer's coaching style during the final weeks of his career, claiming it was 'too British' - but the Norwegian turned down approaches by the Red Devils hierarchy to change his backroom team.

Solskjaer's assistants included former United midfielder Carrick and Mike Phelan - who worked under Sir Alex Ferguson while Solskjaer was a player - with Northern Irishman Kieran McKenna also part of the team.

But the group of coaches were unable to stop a bad run of form for the Red Devils, with United losing 5-0 at home to Liverpool and 2-0 to Manchester City at Old Trafford.
