Manchester United great Peter Schmeichel believes a lot of work Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did has gone unnoticed.
Solskjaer was sacked on Sunday after almost three years as United manager.
Schmeichel said: "I'm really, really sad. I'm sad for Ole, for the fans and the club. It isn't where the club wants to be, dismissing manager number four in such a short period of time.
"A lot of what Ole has done well has gone under the radar, I don't think people are aware of it; organising the club for the future.
"But football is about results, here and now, and the expectations are if you don't have the results, somebody else can come in.
"Unfortunately, this has happened today, I was hoping it wouldn't. But now we have to look ahead to the future and hope we can get somebody who can be there for the long run."
