Veteran Dutch coach Wim van Hanegem believes Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong needs a change of position.
De Jong has ducked the Dutch media so far this week amid local criticism of his season form, including from Van Hanegem.
“That criticism was always justified," he insisted.
“I also got very tired of it, to be honest with you. He was only walking and gave a little passes wide and back. I was completely disturbed by that. There was no shot at all.
“If we say it's not good, it doesn't mean Frenkie isn't a good player. He's just a great player. That's why it's a shame that he's messing around like that. Now he is in midfield and behind him is (Daley) Blind. Then the ball will go there. I think he should play an attacking role in the right midfield for Oranje.
"He's a player... He has so many qualities, but now he's just walking and walking on the winger. Anyone can do that. You need him up front."
