West Ham U23 coach Mark Robson was happy with a winning debut in victory over Manchester City.

Sonny Perkis struck the only of the game for the Irons.

“I thought the lads did really well," Robson told whufc.com.

“We've put some stuff to them in the last couple of days, both in and out of possession, and I just said to them after the game that there will be lots of stuff which we'll clip out to show how well they took it on board.

“I don't think our goalkeeper, Krisztian Hegyi, had anything to save in the second half, so defensively we were very good, and we had some great chances in the second half in particular – we perhaps could have won more comfortably.

“I thought the players gave everything today. They're a good bunch and very much together as a group, which is always a good sign.

“In general, their work ethic was good. That's what I asked them at the start: as a team, we had to work together, because you don't get anywhere as individuals. You have to work with the players around you and I thought we did that really well today."
