Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe insists it's too soon to consider January market plans.

Reinforcements will be needed in January, but Howe is simply focused on the nine matches between now and the mid-season window opening.

"My immediate thought coming here was, 'The last thing I want to talk about is January,'" he said at his unveiling press conference at St James' Park. "It honestly is.

"I wouldn't say it's not in my thoughts at all. There will obviously be different people who have done certain work that every football club has to prepare for transfer windows and loads of what if situations, but my thought is to get the best out of the players we have now.

"We have so many games between now and January. When I'm on the outside and I'm looking and I'm seeing reports linking Newcastle with this player, that player, it doesn't do the current players any good whatsoever to be reading headlines.

"We need to be united as a football club from top to bottom to have success and I urge you not to speculate too much. I know it's your job but, for me, it's the team in the here and now is my main focus."
