Former Schalke striker Matthew Hoppe is struggling to settle at Real Mallorca.
Hoppe has played the third fewest minutes in the squad so far, only behind the injured Antonio Raillo and third-choice goalkeeper Leo Roman, and Mallorca boss Luis Garcia Plaza has discussed the American's struggles when it comes to the Spanish language.
"He is a boy who is in a process of adaptation and learning Spanish. He is attending classes," said Garcia Plaza.
"With him I speak in English, but with the group in Spanish. In the end Matthew misses out on a lot of things, not just football, but integration. You see your teammates laughing and you don't know what they are laughing about.
"His physical data is very good in terms of his passing, intensity and work rate. He's a very dynamic lad."
Now, on top of his lack of opportunities on the pitch, Hoppe has picked up a muscular injury that will keep him out of action for several weeks.
Despite his lack of game time at Mallorca, the US men's national team still called him up. However, this injury means that Hoppe will be unable to contribute in their World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Jamaica.
