Newcastle United are keen on departing Barcelona technical secretary Ramon Planes.

Marca says the Spaniard is said to be considering other projects abroad.

This has put the new board at Newcastle on alert as they still look to appoint someone in the role between the owners and the manager.

Lee Charnley, who was appointed managing director under Mike Ashley, remains at the club but his future is still very much up in the air.

The appointment of a new technical secretary would likely see him relieved of his duties as he was only initially kept onboard to assist the takeover.

There are, however, potential other roles that will become available for Planes as Liverpool could also be in the market for someone of his stature and experience.

With the Reds' sporting director, Michael Edwards, leaving at the end of the season, that might open a pathway for the Barcelona man to get involved at Anfield.
