KUALA LUMPUR – Election Academy of Malaysia (APR) will use social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok to encourage young people to vote.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department of Law and Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, said they initiated this virtual sharing project to keep in trend with today’s young adults.
“APR will be carrying out Voter Education (VE) to give the people, especially youths, a better understanding of our country’s election. It will also be used to answer some common enquiries regarding an election,” said Wan Junaidi in the Parliament’s House of Representatives today.
The proposal was announced when the minister responded to a query by Kuala Krai’s MP, Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman on how the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR) will ensure voters under 18 will vote in the upcoming election.
Clearing out non-eligible voters
Earlier, Wan Junaidi pointed out that there are currently 7000 voters registered in the SPR voting system.
However, these numbers includes those who have passed away, are in jail, or suffer mental and physical illnesses.
SPR is expecting to finish registration of voters under 18-year-old and data-filtering for old voters by September 2022.
