Aston Villa football chief Johan Lange admits they chose Steven Gerrard from a lost of 20 managerial candidates.
Gerrard will make his debut as Aston Villa manager this weekend against Brighton.
Lange stated, "First we established the criteria for our new head coach.
"We had a list of 20 possible coaches, which we presented to the board, and the list was then cut to four coaches.
"We all had a conversation with them, and Steven was incredible at all our meetings with him."
