SHAH ALAM, Nov 13 — The driver of the van which collided into and killed a seven-year old girl at Taman Dahlia, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi yesterday is believed to be without a permit.
Kosmo reported Selangor Investigation Department and Traffic Enforcement chief Supt Azman Shari’at as saying his department is monitoring the case alongside the Sepang police district headquarters.
“The van in question was white in colour, rather than the prescribed yellow.
“Additionally the van did not have the words ‘Van Sekolah’ emblazoned across it, and it is believed there was no permit,” he said when contacted today.
In relation to this, Azman advised all school van drivers to obey the laws by possessing a valid permit.
“Parents are also advised to select a registered school van service, by taking into account the safety factor for their children,” he said.
Preliminary investigations discovered the van driver, a 31-year old woman, was driving ahead without realising she had collided with the victim, who was crossing in front of the vehicle.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987, for the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
If found guilty, the penalty is imprisonment between five to 10 years, and a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000.
