AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is full of pride after being handed the Liedholm Award.

The award is named after former Roma and Milan coach Nils Liedholm, which is assigned for gentlemanly behaviour and approaches in the sport.

“I am very proud to receive this award, as Nils represented elegance, style and wisdom, being a gentleman both on and off the field," said Pioli.

“He passed on so many of those values and in my own small way, I am trying to do the same. We started our journey at Milan two years ago and hope to soon reap the rewards, but it takes time.

“I think the most important thing as a coach is to always be yourself. I put all of myself into my work and it's not easy to find a balance in football. It's a young Milan squad, but one with time to grow and be allowed to make mistakes in order to step up a level."

Pioli also said: “Milan is a great club and I hope to stay as long as possible. I had a positive sensation from the first day, we created a great rapport with everyone, we are all working in the same direction. That is fundamental."
