Former Real Madrid assistant coach David Bettoni has revealed Zinedine Zidane always wanted his players to enjoy their daily training.
Bettoni had been working with Zidane since the latter was in charge of Real Madrid Castilla, and he subsequently became the Frenchman's assistant in his both spells at Los Blancos.
"I had my ideas because I was a youth coach for eight or nine years," Bettoni told RMC Sport.
"I asked Zidane: 'What type of football would you like to offer as a coach?'
"We talked about the principles of the game, different systems, how to play the ball out [from the back].
"We talked mostly about the notion of enjoyment. He told me: 'When you go to help me prepare for training, I want the notion of enjoyment to be at the centre of your exercises. I want the player to want to come back [to the training ground] when he gets home.' These words from Zidane stayed with me."
Bettoni went on to discuss about Zidane's coaching qualities and what the Frenchman asked from his coaching staff.
"He's an atypical coach, he doesn't talk much about what he does in front of the media," added Bettoni.
"He has always been like that. He doesn't play the role of being a discreet character. But when you talk about football with him, you feel like he's been through a lot and has been coached by great coaches before becoming a coach.
"He has prepared himself. He needs us to synthesise our ideas. He has a very important tactical script that he reserves for his squad and his players. Zidane has ideas and passes a lot of time by talking individually with his players."
