Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would not be drawn on the international status of attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.
The English no.10 put in an excellent display and got the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Watford in the Premier League this weekend.
Smith Rowe is presently an England Under-21 squad member, but many believe he should get a full call-up to Gareth Southgate's senior squad.
Asked whether Smith Rowe had a point to prove after not getting a senior call up for this upcoming international break, Arteta responded: "Gareth made the call, he knows Emile really well, and I'm sure he's got a plan for him.
"It's very important in football to be patient, and go step by step. When you make that step, reinforce it and make sure it's a secure and safe step before you make your next move."
