KUALA LUMPUR – Bukit Kepong hero Tan Sri John Joe Raj Jr died early this morning at 1.55am at the Ara Damansara medical centre in Petaling Jaya. He was 100 years old.
A former police commissioner, Raj was hailed a hero when he headed the Tiger Squad to save the Bukit Kepong police officers from the 1950 communist attack. He was then Pagoh district police chief at the time.
In 1974, he was appointed Bukit Aman’s management director before his retirement in 1976 with the title of police commissioner. He had celebrated turning 100 in July this year.
The Royal Malaysian Police expressed their condolences to his family for his passing.
“The loss of Tan Sri JJ Raj Jr is a big loss for the force and the country,” they said in a Facebook post today.
The public can pay their respects this evening when he is placed at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Shah Alam. – The Vibes, November 6, 2021
