
Kota Kinabalu: Former State footballer Azah Ezrein has received more than RM5,000 in cash raised from the charity football match organised by Sabah Football Association (Safa) at Likas Stadium on Saturday.
The 71-year-old, who is suffering from a mild stroke following a road accident recently, expressed his gratitude to Safa President Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
His former teammate Datuk James Wong, who is also Safa Vice President, presented the money on behalf of Bung to him at his residence, Monday morning.
Apart from the RM5,000 contributed by Safa, the charity match which featured Safa officials and Ex-State players also raised an extra RM2,400.
Azah, who played in midfield started to play for the State team at age 18, was forced to quit in 1981 after 21 years due to foot injury.
He is a qualified coach and was the State assistant coach in 1995-1996, Borneo Cup coach in 1986 and President’s Cup coach in the 1990s
He had also attended a coaching programme in Brazil sponsored by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
