Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick insists Ralf Rangnick had no hand in his team selection for Sunday's clash with Chelsea.

Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped to the bench as United drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Rangnick is expected to be announced as interim manager until the end of the season, but Carrick denies he had a role in selection against the Blues.

Former United defender Gary Neville tweeted about the team selection, stating: "I've a feeling the incoming manager has picked that team as it's a huge departure from midweek and what they've been doing."

However, Carrick denied that suggestion in his post-match press conference saying: "That's not the case, no."

On his selection, Carrick added: "The changes I made was a feeling.

"We had thoughts about the game, how the game was going to go, about how we could hurt them, how we could penetrate, a little bit of freshness as well, a bit of energy some boys have played a lot of games.

"There's a lot of things that go into that. Yes, blocking the middle of the pitch was a big part of it for us, but that's only a small part."
