KUCHING, Dec 18 ― Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Dr Sim Kui Hian has won the Batu Kawah state seat with 5,219 majority.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate received 7,653 votes to fend off DAP’s Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wun, also the Bandar Kuching MP, who only garnered 2,434 votes.

The other two candidates, Chai Kueh Khun from Parti Bumi Kenyalang and Fong Pau Teck of Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak only managed 754 and 128 votes, respectively, and will lose their election deposits as a result.

In the 2016 Sarawak state election, Dr Sim defeated DAP’s then incumbent assemblyman Christina Liew with a 2,085 majority.
