Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has told Mikel Arteta what to look for in his next Arsenal captain.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped off the responsibility this week after breaching club rules, which forced him to miss last weekend's clash with Southampton.

Vieira captained the Gunners from 2002 until 2005 and believes the club now needs a 'positive leader' in the role.

"I think as a manager you always want your captain to be one of the leaders, a positive leader on and off the field,' the Palace head coach told reporters.

"You will want your captain to set the example and, obviously, the captain will always have, I believe, a special relationship with the manager.

"But to have that you need to be a positive leader."
