
Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized a trawler after it was found fishing without a valid licence and permit in the waters off Kota Belud, near here, Thursday.
MMEA Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director First Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the trawler was detained by a patrol craft some 11 nautical miles southeast of Mantanani Island.
He said seven Indonesian crew aged between 21 and 44 were found working on the boat and two of them failed to produce valid identification documents.
“The crew also failed to produce the boat’s licence, apart from failing to display a certificate of permission to use radio equipment from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” he said, Thursday.
Rosli said he boat was seized and all the crew detained and taken to the Sepanggar Maritime Jetty to be handed over to the investigating officer for further action.
