Post-wedding activity means a honeymoon with your loved one! But for this pair of newlyweds, they have something else in mind.

Muhammad Ridzuan Osman, 34, and his wife, Nur Afifah Habib, who turned 26 this year tied the knot on 13 December (Monday). However they decided to spend their first week as husband and wife by volunteering to bury people who died due to the Covid-19 virus.

Ridzuan, who is also the head of the operation for Team Cangkul, a team that handles and buries Covid-19 casualties for free said that he immediately told his wife after receiving a call that asked for help to bury a dead patient.

“My wife agreed and we immediately rushed to Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim to retrieve the corpse for burial,” he said, and revealed that other volunteers also helped in the process.

Afifah, who works in a Korean restaurant does not mind getting her hands dirty while digging the grave using a hoe. She joined the volunteer team 3 months ago and that’s how both of them, who are from Sungai Petani, Kedah, met.

“We started to get to know each other more and that’s when our love started to bloom. The next thing I knew, he proposed to me,” she said.

As of now, the couple has no intention of stopping their volunteer works. Ever since they met each other in the team, the couple has managed to bury 15 people who succumbed to the virus.

We are eternally grateful to these frontliners who have to always be ready and risk their lives just for the sake of the community.
