Brentford boss Thomas Frank was proud of his players after their 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City.
Phil Foden struck the winner for City in London.
Frank said, "Absolutely fantastic [performance]. First half, unbelievable, we gave one chance away against Manchester City. We are lacking six of our normal starters. I'm so disappointed we didn't get anything out of it.
"Marginal onside, their goal, we had three very good opportunities that we needed to take, of course. Second half, it's difficult to get near them, we wanted to get higher but they still had only two chances.
"We know we're running after the ball a lot, that is one thing, but I think on the day we lacked that bit of extra quality to make the difference, especially in the second half. We needed to get more out of our set-pieces."
On whether Manchester City are the best team Brentford have faced this season, he added: "It's a good question, either them or Liverpool. In the Premier League, anything can happen, but City are a good side. If they don't have too many injuries, I think they'll win the title."
