
RANAU: A brief walk to visit a relative turned tragic for a local woman drowned in a river.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief, Ridwan Mohd Taib said his team was informed about a missing person by villagers at 6.30pm on Monday through the Ranau Fire Station phone line.
“We received a distress call from villagers informing that Elly binti Jumat, 35 was missing by family members in Kg Lobou Lama Timbua, situated about 55km from the station.
“We launch a search and rescue operation Tuesday morning. A team tried to locate the victim around the area where she was believed to have been missing but to no avail,” he said.
Ridwan said an integrated effort by several agencies and villagers resulted in finding the body in the Ulu Sugut Karagasan River, about 40km from the victim’s house.
