SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 — Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor) has recorded only two water disruptions this year caused by pollution of raw water sources compared to the seven cases registered last year.

Its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said both cases that happened at Sungai Semenyih in September had resulted in unscheduled water cuts and had affected the consumers.

“The incident (pollution) was unacceptable. We do not tolerate any parties who have caused water pollution by dumping toxic waste into the rivers,” he said in a virtual press conference, yesterday.

Suhaimi said that while it is impossible to avoid water supply disruption, Air Selangor is trying its best to overcome the water pollution issue.

“We cannot rely solely on luck and hope. Instead, we need solid cooperation from all parties,” he added.

On September 3, some 463 areas in five districts in Klang Valley experienced unscheduled water cuts following an odour pollution incident traced at the Sungai Semenyih raw water resource.

The districts affected were Petaling with 172 areas, Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (20 areas).
