Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is happy to lift expectations at the club.

Gerrard has brought about a winning culture and a no excuses environment at Bodymoor Heath - he is determined to get Villa back amongst the league's top six places.

And asked whether he feels the same burden as he felt as a player at Liverpool all those years ago, Gerrard told Sky Sports: "I think it's a responsibility rather than a burden.

"I think a burden sounds like a negative and it sounds like an unwanted pressure.

"I think to go into this role and this job you've got to expect a lot of opinions, you've got to expect a lot of scrutiny.

"There's two ways to look at that. You've got to appreciate the job role that you're in and try and enjoy it and use that responsibility in a positive way.

"But of course as a player there was a burden at times and I'm sure there will be, and there has been in terms of my managerial career.

"I've got to deal with that and do it in the best possible way I can."
