
SANDAKAN: A 22-year-old woman was fined a total of RM65,000 for allowing 13 illegal immigrants to stay in her premises.
Magistrate Herlina Muse who sat as a Sessions Court Judge, meted out the sentence to Rowennie Lok Jia yee who pleaded guilty to the charge against her on Tuesday.
The court ordered Lok to pay RM5,000 or six months’ jail for each illegal immigrant involved.
Lok was found to have permited the 13 illegal immigrants to stay at the Kuarters Arajaya Enterprise, Mile 9, Jalan Labuk Lama, here at 1am on June 18 this year.
The offence under Section 55E(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.
Prosecuting Officer Nasuffian Adam from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution.
